Learner Response PPE 2020

1) Type up your feedback in full (you do not need to write mark/grade if you do not wish to).
You must relate back to the question making sure that you have answered what it wants you to outline.
Revise more media terminology and the CSPs
Have more clarity when your explaining the CSPs

2) Did you succeed in meeting or exceeding your target grade for A Level Media in this paper? If not, how many additional marks do you need to achieve your target grade in Paper 2?
Unfortunately, I was unable to succeed in my target grade in paper 2 however, I have learned my area of mistakes and will improve on them. I was 13 marks off a B grade.
These are the grade boundaries we've used, based on last year's A Level exam but raised slightly to account for the fact they will probably move up slightly (out of 84):

A* = 75; A = 66; B = 54; C = 44; D = 32; E = 20.

Now read through the AQA mark scheme for Paper 2 - you'll already have looked at this in class when marking the exam booklet of other students' responses. The original Paper 2 question paper is here if that is helpful too.

3) Write a question-by-question analysis of your performance. For each question, write how many marks you got from the number available and identify any points that you missed by carefully studying the AQA indicative content in the mark scheme:
1.
4/9 marks
I didn't fully answer the question since I did not completely finish explaining each bullet point.
2.
13/25 marks
I didn't mention media effects theories such as cultivation theory; I didn't focus on the question asking 'how valid' are media effects theories; I could have discussed the effect representations of women have on male gamers as suggested by Anita Sarkeesian; I could have discussed the ideological impact of The Sims on young gamers indoctrinated into the American capitalist dream.
3.
12/25 marks
I didn't really mention the social and cultural context of both Oh comely and Men's health as a began going off tangent and wrote about mostly the social context. I need to stop writing too much on media theories and focus on answering the question. Also, I must write a balanced argument for both CSPs and not focus on one over the other.
4
12/25 marks
I forgot to mention other CSPs that are not given in the question and an overall view of the media course its self. I believe i only wrote about the 2 CSPs on TV shows and didn't bring knowledge from other CSPs relating to the question.

4) Look at question 4 - the synoptic question on TV. Write a full, new essay plan for this question using the indicative content in the mark scheme (focus particularly on distribution) and taking care to include at least one paragraph that addresses the synoptic element. You can use bullet points but make sure you offer enough content to meet the criteria for Level 4 (top level). This will be somewhere between 4-6 well-developed paragraphs planned in some detail.
Q1
-the construction of myth through the use of signs – the lone, charismatic American hero, violent but thoughtful and reflective.
- the denotation of the costume, props, colour and body language

-notion of a patriotic country, valuing an independent spirit associated with
masculinity.

Q2
-The key aspects of the relevant theories, including uses and gratifications, hypodermic needle model, moral panic, cultivation, Bandura’s social learning theory
-the way in which different audience interpretations reflect social, cultural
and historical circumstances.

- effects research into video games tends to focus on violent game-play; both Lara Croft and Metroid are action-adventure games which focus on assault and killing in the narrative.
Q3
-the effect of social and cultural context on representations
-the contexts of production are relatively insignificant in creating meanings (reception theory); meanings derive from the interaction between the audience and the product.
Q4
-how audiences are grouped and categorised by media industries, including by age, gender and social class, as well as by lifestyle and taste.
-using a variety of platforms that includes: free-to-air television, the internet (including subscription services such as Netflix), web apps, subscription services such as Sky.-Address both CSPs

5) Based on the whole of your Paper 2 learner response, plan FIVE topics / concepts / CSPs / theories that you will prioritise in your Easter Media revision timetable.
1. Videogames (CSPs)
2. Media effect theorist
3. Gender Theorists
4. Learn the cultural, historical and social context for all CSPs in Paper 2
5. Representation in TV shows

Mise en scene

Coursework: Pre-production - Mise-en-scene

Costume
The main character is presented as a detective in the show therefore, the costume will consist of a long coat, black long sleeve shirt. For the female actresses, the costume will consist of normal casual clothes. This links to my statement of intent as it corresponds to the role they are playing. It also makes it easier for the audience to guess what the genre is due to the clothes used.

Lighting
For lighting, I would be using mostly low key lighting to portray the characters as intimidating and sinister. The lighting will be enhanced with the use of many flash lights. If some scenes are set in the dark, i would be using lampposts to reinforce the lighting that needs to be depicted in the scene. If some of the scenes are filmed indoor, lighting will be used from the sun or the room's lighting. Blinds are most likely to be shut when indoors to keep the scene confidential due to one of the scene being a psychiatric lab.

Actors
The main three characters that will be issued in the trailer will be 2 female character who play the role of Tayla and Mya Smirnoff. Finally, the last main character is a male called Jack Daniels who plays the role of the detective. Mya is only issued for a short time in the trailer as shes the character who  creates the disequilibrium due to her being kidnapped. Tayla is portrayed as the villain in the TV show therefore, there will be many closeups of her expressing her hatred.

Make-up
In the opening scene, i will be presenting someones 18 birthday, therefore, to make the scene seem more realistic, the female character must look appealing towards the audience to really portray a big moment of her life.

Props
I will be using a bat in the opening scene. There will be a car chase therefore, cars will be involved in the trailer.

Setting

The  first scene will be in school however, ill be using a room that looks like a living room to portray that home environment. This means that it will not be a school scene instead a home atmosphere filmed in school.

The second scene will be at a restaurant where the two main characters will be having a discussion about the case.

third scene will be at school in the drama studio creating a psychiatric lab

Fourth scene will be at hayes construction area where the main character gets a hold of where the suspects hideout area and eventually finds out where the victim was taken.

fifth scene will be in the toilets where the main antagonist is revealing her biggest lie

sixth scene will be located at ruislip lido where the river is. The main protagonist finally meets the antagonist who planned the whole kidnapping.
